We are so excited to welcome Katherine (Katie) Dorsey, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, to the Beaches OBGYN family!
After spending her early years moving coast to coast as part of a Navy family, Katie settled in Fernandina Beach in 1997 and has proudly called Northeast Florida home ever since. She earned her undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University, graduating cum laude, and later received her Master of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville University.
Katie brings more than 15 years of healthcare experience, including progressive leadership roles within the Baptist Health system, most recently serving as Director of the Maternal Newborn Service Line. Her passion for women’s health was sparked during her own pregnancies and deepened through her work alongside OB/GYN and labor and delivery teams across the region.
She is especially passionate about patient education, empowering women to make confident healthcare decisions, and supporting mothers through pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding. Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, their two children, and their two French bulldogs, exploring the beaches and bike trails of Northeast Florida.

What inspired you to pursue the field of women’s healthcare, specifically obstetrics and gynecology?
My passion for women’s health first ignited during my own pregnancy and early motherhood. That interest deepened during my role in the maternal/newborn service line at Baptist, where I was fortunate to collaborate with L&D teams and OB/GYN providers across the system. These experiences broadened my understanding of the field and fueled my desire to work in OB/GYN. During my NP program, I had the privilege of learning from a UAB professor and a local physician mentor, both deeply committed to caring for women at every stage of life. Seeing the positive impact they had on their patients and their dedication to advancing women’s health inspired me to pursue this career after graduation.
What aspects of the practice are you most passionate about and why?
It’s hard to choose just one! I love the variety of patients we get to treat within our practice and feel passionate about so many different women’s health topics. My goal as a nurse practitioner is to empower my patients with education and tools so they can confidently make healthcare decisions, so patient education is one of my favorite aspects of my role. Supporting women through early motherhood and breastfeeding is a personal passion for me because of the amazing support I received during my two pregnancies and the challenges of breastfeeding.
If you could offer one piece of advice to your female patients, what would it be?
Seek out support when you need it, and don’t be afraid to ask questions! Keeping up with preventative care and routine appointments is so important to feeling your best. I encourage everyone, but especially women who tend to get caught up in caring for everyone else, to keep your appointments and talk with your healthcare team about how you’re feeling and what support you need.

Is there a personal situation or scenario that has helped solidify your chosen career path?
My mom’s journey through a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment solidified for me that nursing was the career for me. I was completing my undergraduate degree in nursing when she was diagnosed, and I was able to come home and be with her during some of her testing, treatment, and recovery. Experiencing firsthand a family member facing a serious diagnosis completely changed my perspective on the healthcare profession. I was inspired by the nurses and physicians who helped my mom, and I knew without a doubt that I wanted to help others in the same way.
What do you love most about Jacksonville and its surrounding beaches?
Outside of work, I love to spend time with family and friends. We have a 13-year-old daughter, a 2-year-old son, and two French bulldogs, Daisy and Dolly, who keep my husband and me busy! We try to spend as much time as possible outdoors, enjoying the Florida weather. One of our favorite things to do as a family is ride bikes, exploring Ponte Vedra and the beach communities.
