Robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement surgery uses 3D imaging that enables Dr. Lavernia to plan the procedure around your unique anatomy which, in turn, helps ensure the correct sizing and positioning of your prosthesis.
It also enables the surgeon to selectively target only the diseased portion of the affected joint area, preserving healthy, surrounding bone and tissue. Implant placement is more precise, resulting in less wear for the new joint and fewer complications that could lead to future revision surgery.
In addition, robotic-assisted hip and knee surgery is less invasive than conventional surgery, with smaller incisions. That means less postoperative pain and faster healing. As a result, most robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement patients can be discharged from the hospital in a day or two. In some cases, it is performed as an outpatient procedure.
