LEEP stands for Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure, and it’s a type of treatment that prevents cervical cancer. Many women are susceptible to potentially contracting cervical cancer, and this 10-minute procedure is one of the most frequently used preventive measures.
The treatment itself is relatively painless, especially if the patient is under the influence of numbing medicine. The whole procedure usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes, and it removes all abnormal cells most of the time. If all suspicious cells are not removed in one treatment, your doctor will either recommend another LEEP treatment or more tests, depending on the circumstances.
Contraceptive methods have become very effective in the past couple of decades, which is why it’s important to keep sexually active individuals informed and educated. Apart from pregnancy prevention, STDs are also one of the most dangerous factors for many adolescents, especially those who are just beginning to be sexually active.
Obstetricians and gynecologists will usually include emergency contraception in the discussion, and may even write advance prescriptions for emergency contraception. Maintaining a healthy sexual life is of utmost importance for one’s well being, which is why sexual counseling is essential for the prevention of STDs and STIs.
STD screening refers to testing an individual who doesn’t necessarily have symptoms. These screenings aren’t usually a part of routine checkups. However, there are a few exceptions, such as pregnant women, women under the age of 25 who are sexually active, homosexuals, and people who have a new partner.
If your sexual history and current condition suggest that you might have a sexually transmitted disease or infection, we offer STD tests. The three main tests include blood tests, a urine sample, and a fluid sample, depending on need. If you’re a part of any of these groups, don’t hesitate to visit us and test yourself for STDs and STIs.
Raising awareness about birth control is one of the best methods for reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies. While many women believe they know enough about birth control, the reality is completely different. Consulting with your doctor is the best course of action, especially because a lot of elements depend on your personal health condition.
IUD insertion & removal
Both insertion and removal of an IUD must be done by a doctor; you should never attempt to do it yourself. It is a quick procedure, and you usually don’t need to do anything to prepare for it. Removing an IUD is, in most cases less painful than inserting it. You might want to avoid sexual intercourse for a week before your appointment.
BRCA testing for abnormal breast cancer genes is usually done on a saliva or blood sample. During testing, the genes are partitioned from the rest of your DNA and subsequently scanned for suspicious discrepancies.
Lynch syndrome is inherited and caused by two genes. A couple of recent studies have shown that some women with this syndrome are more likely to develop breast cancer. The Lynch syndrome itself significantly raises the risk of stomach, ovarian, endometrial, and colorectal cancer. Visit us, and we will make sure to test and identify potential predicaments with inherited genes.
Bone densitometry is done by utilizing a small dose of ionizing radiation in order to measure bone loss. It’s a relatively standard method for diagnosing osteoporosis, and it doesn’t require any preparation. One of the things you should avoid is taking calcium supplements 24h before your exam.
A pelvic ultrasound is a non-invasive, painless procedure that allows for quick visualization of the pelvic organs with the inclusion of structures such as the uterus, vagina, fallopian tubes, cervix, and ovaries. A pelvic ultrasound may be performed using the transabdominal method (through the abdomen) and transvaginal method (through the vagina).
Uterine ablation, also known as Endometrial ablation, is a relatively simple process of removing a thin layer of tissue that lines the uterus. It is usually done with patients who struggle with heavy menstrual bleeding. However, it is only done on patients who don’t plan on having children in the future.
The procedure is done with a small probe that is inserted through your vagina in order to reach your uterus. No cuts or incisions are made during this process. If you have heavy and long periods, visit us, and we will determine the root of the problem and intervene accordingly.
D&C, also known as dilation and curettage, is a procedure that’s done to diagnose or treat a uterine condition. When treating a condition, the doctor will remove the contents from your uterus rather than taking a small sample. They may also remove a molar pregnancy, benign polyps, leftover tissue from a miscarriage, and any placenta that might have remained in your uterus.
The procedure is done under anesthesia, so you shouldn’t feel any discomfort whatsoever. Normal side effects of this procedure include light bleeding and mild cramping, both of which are easily treatable with ibuprofen.
The MyoSure procedure is done to remove polyps, fibroids, and other tissue found in the uterus. It’s a non-invasive procedure during which your doctor will insert a thin instrument into your vagina and access your uterus without making a single incision. The great thing about this particular procedure is that it’s an outpatient procedure, meaning you can go home the same day.
The MyoSure procedure can only be done by a trained gynecologist, and more importantly – the procedure is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, diagnosed with uterine cancer, or are going through a pelvic infection.
The Mona Lisa Touch is a painless treatment for vaginal rejuvenation, usually performed by a gynecologist/obstetrician. It has no known side-effects and requires no particular preparation. Perimenopausal, as well as menopausal treatment, may include estrogen therapy to eliminate the uncomfortable symptoms of sudden changes in hormonal balance.
