What We Do

Robotic Surgery

Robotic Surgery is a minimally invasive option for women facing gynecologic surgery. Your surgeon makes just a few small incisions – similar to traditional laparoscopy, and uses a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and tiny wristed instruments. As a result, she can operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control, using instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist.

During robotic surgery, your surgeon is 100% in control of the robot. It simply translates her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of the tiny instruments inside your body.

Robotic surgery has the potential for significantly less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and a faster return to normal daily activities.

Single Incision Laparoscopy (SILS)

The SILS™ approach is designed to make surgery less invasive. Thus, instead of a six-inch incision required by traditional surgery, the SILS™ surgery is accomplished through a single incision in the belly button. Cutting edge technology allows your surgeon to operate through a 2 cm incision, placing multiple instruments through a single access point.

This method potentially eliminates the scars associated with multiple points of entry, and can also reduce the length of hospital stays and allow patients to resume their daily activities sooner.

The decision to use the SILS™ approach is based on your history, physical exam, and pathology.

Advanced Laparoscopy

The most common minimally invasive surgery is laparoscopy. Instead of a large open incision, surgery is done through a few small incisions using a tiny camera and long, thin surgical instruments. The camera takes images inside your body and those images are sent to a video monitor in the operating room which guides your surgeon as they operate.

Laparoscopy is often used to find problems such as cysts, adhesions, fibroids, and infection. Tissue samples can be taken for biopsy through the laparoscope. It is also used in the removal of organs such as the uterus and ovaries.

In many cases, laparoscopy can be done instead of laparotomy surgery that uses a larger incision in the belly. Laparoscopy can be less stressful and may have less problems and lower costs than laparotomy for minor surgeries. It can often be done without needing to stay overnight in the hospital.

Hysteroscopy and/or Endometrial Biopsy

The hysteroscopy procedure is done in the office. You will be placed in a position similar to that for a PAP smear exam. The hysteroscopy allows us to examine the lining of your uterus. This exam can help determine the cause of problems such as: frequent bleeding, very heavy or irregular periods, infertility problems, infections, polyps, abnormal cells, postmenopausal bleeding, and ovulation problems.

Call the office if you have any of the following: Severe cramping, heavy bleeding (more than a pad an hour), or fever over 101°F. You will receive a call regarding your biopsy results. Results can take up to 2 weeks.
