Patients should know as much as they can about what a gynecologic visit entails in order to reduce any fears and anxiety during their visit. Our gynecologic exams may include a number of diagnostic procedures that determine the health of the female genital tract. When warranted, they may start around the age of 16 up until age 70 (or older) depending on each patient. An ordinary visit usually begins with an anamnesis-an open conversation between the provider and patient in order to get as much information about their condition. Patients are encouraged to speak freely about their current state and health concerns.<\/p>\n

We believe that healthcare is best provided by developing and nurturing a strong bond between patient and provider. This is followed by an inquiry regarding pertinent and valuable personal and family medical history that will assist the providers in tailoring the remainder of your visit. Once all the information is acquired, the examination can start. A typical examination involves a detailed inspection of the vulva (to check for abnormal skin lesions), vaginal canal\/cervix with a speculum, and an examination of the uterus and ovaries with a gloved hand. A pap smear is generally obtained for cervical cancer screening and lastly, a breast examination is performed to check for any lumps, skin changes, or nipple discharge.<\/p>\n

Once the main part of the exam is completed, the provider offers recommendations and prescribes therapy if needed. Further diagnostic procedures can be recommended depending on each case.
