I am Nubia Fonseca Ortiz, I was born, raised and educated in Colombia where I finished my Medical School 18 years ago. I was so eager to work with people that I started working in so many different clinical settings from Hospitals to outpatient clinics, Emergency departments and even with incarcerated patients. Those years helped me sharpen my clinical skills by working with very sick people and made me love being able to help some of the immediate needs of my patients. Yes, being in my country I felt I could help my people just by practicing good medicine, but after a period of time I realized that sometimes, good medicine is just not good enough to treat somebody sick. The complicated Human Being which depends not just on the biological aspects of it but also its relationships with the emotions, stress level, social environment, customs, associated to the political aspects of the Health System which delineates resources, needs and even interferes with the type of Medical Practice we as physicians can actually practice, make every individual unique and different, difficult to be classified just by symptoms and signs. So after a period of time I realized I needed to expand my level of knowledge and so I decided to travel to the United States and fulfill my Internal medicine Training in NYC at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx for 3 years. This period of time made me reborn and realize there is a different way to practice medicine in an also very sick population and kind of rough environment, great experience. Being at Saint Barnabas Hospital I was granted my Resident of the year for Professionalism award during my second year of Residence. Then I worked for 5 years as a Hospitalist at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach, a beautiful period of time in my life which taught me more about hard working and kind, nice people.<\/p>\n<\/div>

I like following them and making sure we are speaking the same language, that way we can really get results together and progress to a better health state. I am looking for connections and longstanding relationships, I want to get results and really be able to impact people’s lives in a positive way, I like being able to exemplify the lifestyle I talk about and so get the trust that I believe is needed to build a great physician-patient relationship.<\/p>\n
