Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) accounts for a significant number of gynecologic visits. Causes may include:
- Fibroids
- Endometrial polyps
- Adenomyosis
- PCOS
- Hormonal imbalance
- Thyroid disorders
- Uterine cancer
- Medication-related bleeding
Evaluation may include ultrasound, endometrial biopsy, hysteroscopy, or laboratory testing. Treatment may be medical or surgical depending on cause.
Fibroids
Uterine fibroids are benign tumors affecting up to 70–80% of women by age 50. Symptoms may include heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure, infertility, or painful intercourse.
We offer individualized medical management as well as surgical options including myomectomy and hysterectomy when indicated.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis occurs when uterine lining tissue grows outside the uterus, causing inflammation, scarring, pelvic pain, infertility, and painful periods. As a fellowship-trained physician, Dr. Khan provides advanced medical and surgical management, including laparoscopic excision.
Pelvic Pain
Chronic pelvic pain may arise from gynecologic, gastrointestinal, urologic, or musculoskeletal causes. Common gynecologic sources include:
- Adenomyosis
- Endometriosis
- Fibroids
- Ovarian cysts
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
Evaluation includes detailed history, imaging, labs and health metric screenings, and individualized treatment planning.
PCOS & Hormonal Disorders
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a metabolic condition involving excess androgens, irregular ovulation, and insulin resistance. Management includes:
- Contraceptive management
- Hormonal regulation
- Lifestyle counseling
- Metformin therapy
- Ovulation induction if pregnancy desired
Ovarian Cysts & Pelvic Masses
Adnexal masses may represent physiologic cysts, endometriomas, dermoids, or in rare cases, malignancy. Evaluation may include imaging and tumor marker testing. When appropriate, cystectomy or surgical removal is performed using minimally invasive techniques.
Vulvar Disorders
We diagnose and manage chronic vulvar conditions including:
- Dermatitis
- Lichen planus
- Lichen sclerosus
- Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia
Diagnosis may require biopsy and individualized treatment.
Pap Smears & Cervical Dysplasia
Pap smears and HPV testing detect precancerous cervical changes. Colposcopy and LEEP procedures are performed when indicated to prevent progression to cervical cancer.
Menopause & Hormone Therapy
Menopause typically occurs around age 51 and may cause:
- Hot flashes
- Night sweats
- Vaginal dryness
- Mood changes
- Sleep disruption
We prescribe evidence-based hormone therapy and non-hormonal options tailored to each patient’s risk profile.
