Robotic and minimally invasive surgery is a multidisciplinary program that includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and operating room staff which have been developed to improve the patient experience by minimizing the trauma of invasive surgery without altering the surgical treatment of disease. The result has been that patients receive the benefits of invasive surgery, even invasive cancer surgery, without the side effects of the large surgical incisions and scars, especially in combination with an enhanced surgical recovery program.
Therefore, when patients are considering surgical treatment for their diagnosis, it is important to also consider whether minimally invasive surgery, including robotic-assisted surgery, would be an appropriate option. Surgical treatment is a personalized treatment, and therefore, depending on the diagnosis and clinical status of the patient, such minimally invasive techniques may be an appropriate option. Dr. Rashid and his team have been leaders in robotic surgery, in both developing some of the technologies and in also offering such technologies to our patients here in South Florida, speaking nationally and internationally on the appropriate role of robotic surgery in complex cases and cancer treatment. Because of the rapid advances in surgical care, we participate in a robust active research program so that our patients in South Florida will have access to world-class care close to home without having to travel long distances.
