DR. LAURA FERNANDEZ-ORTIZ
PEDIATRICIAN
Dr. Laura Fernandez Ortiz was born in New Jersey but raised in Miami. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Miami. She completed her medical school and residency in Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa in 1998. She started Shores Pediatrics in 2005 and has been an integral part of the community since then. Dr Fernandez-Ortiz is certified in Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine. She has 25 years of experience treating children and has a special interest in Adolescent Medicine and Growth Hormone Deficiency.
In her spare time, Dr Fernandez-Ortiz enjoys spending time with her three daughters, her two dogs, exercising and traveling as much as she can.

DR. CAROLINA VILLANUEVA
PEDIATRICIAN
Dr. Carolina Villanueva earned her medical degree from the University of El Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1996. She went on to complete her pediatric residency and a fellowship in neonatology at Hospital Francés, also in Buenos Aires, by 2002. In 2003, she moved to Miami to further her training at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she completed a second pediatric residency in 2006.
Dr Villanueva is a Board-certified in pediatrician since 2008 (recertified in 2021), with over 20 years of experience.She has extensive knowlegge in neonatal intensive care, having worked in multiple NICU settings early in her career. Her clinical interests include the care of newborns and the follow-up of ex-premature infants. Additionally, she is passionate about supporting children and adolescents with ADHD, behavioral challenges, and dyslexia.
Since 2006, Dr. Villanueva has been serving the community she loves as an attending physician in private practice, delivering compassionate and comprehensive care to children and families. Her personalized approach ensures that every patient receives the attention they deserve during each visit.
Dr. Villanueva lives in Key Biscayne and is a mother of two beautiful boys. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and engaging in outdoor activities.
