Dr. Michael Hellinger<\/h3>\n
Dr. Michael Hellinger has been a resident of Miami for over 30 years. Born in Boston, Mass, he moved to Miami at age 11. He completed his undergraduate education in 1983 at Tufts University, where he graduated Cum Laude. The following year was spent performing research in surgical oncology at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. Dr. Hellinger went on to attend the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. He was awarded his medical degree with honors in 1988 and began a general surgical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. During his final year of training, he was the recipient of the outstanding chief resident teacher award. Following completion, he received his Colon and Rectal Surgical Subspecialty training at the Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Florida.<\/p>\n<\/div>
Dr. Hellinger returned to Miami in 1994, to join the faculty of the Department of Surgery at the University of Miami. As a board certified general and colon and rectal surgeon, he was instrumental in the development of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery and an ACGME accredited colon and rectal surgery fellowship training program. Furthermore, he served as Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery from June 1996 to January 2007 and director of the fellowship program from April 2002 to February 2008.<\/p>\n
Dr. Hellinger has been a recipient of numerous awards including the outstanding junior attending award in 1995 and the outstanding senior attending award in 2004. Additionally, he has been repeatedly listed in Strathmore\u2019s Who\u2019s Who, Global Directory of Who\u2019s Who, How to Find the Best Doctors in Florida, The Best Doctors in America, and the Guide to America\u2019s Top Surgeons. He has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters. Dr. Hellinger is also active in many regional and national organizations. He has served as chairman of the Colon and Rectal Cancer Subcommittee of the Florida Division of the American Cancer Society.<\/p>\n<\/div>
In addition, Dr, Hellinger currently serves an Associate Examiner and exam question writer for The American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery<\/p>\n
