Other Women’s Health Care and Procedures

Many women struggle to cope with conditions such as incontinence and problems with the uterine cavity. While these conditions aren’t inherently too alarming because they are relatively straightforward as far as treatment goes, they offer more than enough reason to be wary of the potential consequences.

Minimally invasive surgeries are done with special instruments that are inserted into your body through small incisions. In most cases, the surgeon will use a laparoscope, which is a thin and long surgical tube with a small camera on its end. The images from the inside of your body are then transmitted to a screen. This eliminates the need for large incisions, which tend to leave scars.

These surgeries are usually performed on women who have issues with cysts, polyps, and sometimes cancer. Your doctor will usually prioritize this method in comparison to traditional surgery, as it’s significantly less invasive and allows for faster recovery.

Colposcopy is a procedure done with a colposcope, which is a magnifying device that allows your gynecologist to examine the interior of your vaginal cavity. It’s usually performed on women who have an irregular pap smear.

Hysteroscopy is a procedure done with a hysteroscope, which is a thin surgical tube with a camera and light on the end. It transmits video signal onto a screen, helping your doctor with diagnosis.

Endometrial Ablation is similar to hysteroscopy, but it’s usually used for treating heavy periods and menstrual issues. However, it’s somewhat of a last resort treatment as it has the potential to cause infertility.

Incontinence is a condition that prevents you from stopping urine from leaking out of your bladder. The most common form is the stress incontinence, caused by weakness in your pelvic floor. Another form is called urge incontinence, which occurs when your bladder muscles spasm, causing you to feel a sudden, usually uncontrollable urge to urinate.

The diagnosis process is relatively straightforward, and it’s done via physical exams and various tests, mainly blood work and urine analysis.
