If you have urinary incontinence, it means that you can’t control the release of your urine. Stress and urge incontinence are the two most prevalent types of urinary incontinence.

Stress incontinence
Stress incontinence occurs when the muscles that support your bladder and urethra are weak and provide insufficient support. As a result, when you laugh, cough, or pick up something heavy, you leak a little urine. Many women mistakenly believe that stress incontinence is an inevitable part of aging. It’s not. With treatment, you can restore your urinary control.

Urge incontinence
Urge incontinence causes a sudden and uncontrollable need to urinate. Although, in many cases, you might not release much urine at all. Also called overactive bladder, urge incontinence can lead to self-restriction due to a fear of unexpectedly needing to urinate when you’re not close to a bathroom.

Stress incontinence is due to weakness in your pelvic floor. Everyday occurrences like pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause can contribute to pelvic floor weakness and stress incontinence.

While pregnancy and childbirth put physical stress on your pelvic floor, the hormonal changes of menopause can cause vaginal atrophy, which weakens your pelvic floor and vaginal muscles.

Urge incontinence, on the other hand, is often due to misfiring nerve signals between your brain and your bladder. Your brain might send incorrect messages to your bladder that it’s time to empty, causing the sudden urge to urinate. If the muscles that support your bladder are tight or spasming, they can also trigger the urge to urinate.

If you’re living with urinary incontinence, make an appointment at Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC for diagnosis and treatment. The doctors use a variety of tests, including urinalysis, bladder stress tests, and cystoscopy to identify the cause of your incontinence symptoms.

  • Pelvic floor physical therapy
  • Bladder training
  • Double voiding
  • Fluid and diet management
  • Electrical or laser stimulation of the pelvic floor muscles

Patient Feedback

Dr. Lee and Dr. Britt are by far best the gynecologists in Central Florida. They always make me feel welcome and it’s wonderful to see the same doctors for over 10 years. The Leesburg office is in dire need of some updating and I wished there was more hand sanitizer readily available, but that has nothing to do with the outstanding care that Dr. Lee and Dr. Britt give.

Dr Wood is a fantastic Doctor. She is so sweet and is so caring, knowledgeable, through and takes the time to listen and discuss all my concerns and questions. I have been going to her for over a decade. She is wonderful in her profession and I am very comfortable and grateful to be in her care . She’s the best in my opinion !!!

This was my first time meeting Dr Lee and I found her to be a delight!! She was knowledgable and very professional and these traits were combined with a great sense of humor and a gentle, caring relational style. I enjoyed my time with her very much!!!
