Urodynamics is a diagnostic procedure that assesses the function of your bladder, sphincters, and urethra. More specifically, urodynamics helps determine how well your bladder holds and empties urine. It can also determine if your bladder is contracting involuntarily, which is a condition referred to as urge incontinence or overactive bladder (OAB).

Your doctor at Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC determines if you’re a good candidate for urodynamics during an evaluation. It would be recommended if you’re experiencing symptoms of urinary incontinence like:

  • Urine leakage
  • Sudden and unexpected urges to urinate
  • Difficulty emptying your bladder
  • Pain during urination

The women’s health experts at Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC specialize in the treatment of incontinence and use the information gathered from your urodynamic testing to direct your treatment plan.

Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC offers full diagnostic urodynamic testing. Your testing can include:

Uroflowmetry
The uroflowmetry measures the speed and volume of your urination.

Postvoid residual measurement
The postvoid residual measurement is used to determine the amount of urine left in your bladder after urination.

Cystometric testing
The cystometric testing measures how much urine your bladder can hold and assesses for urine leakage under stress (coughing), as well as bladder contractions.

Pressure flow study
The pressure flow study may be conducted after cystometric testing to measure the amount of bladder pressure required to urinate and the rate of your urine flow. This test may be used to determine if a blockage is responsible for your urinary incontinence.

Your doctor at Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC reviews the type of urodynamic testing you need before your procedure so you know what to expect.

After you’ve completed your urodynamic testing, your doctor at Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC develops a personalized treatment plan to help you gain control of your bladder. Your treatment can include:

  • Pelvic floor therapy
  • Medication
  • Surgery
