There can be many factors, both physical and physiological, that can cause a woman to have sexual problems.

If you are taking certain medicines, have a disease, or relationship problems, it can affect your sex life. Certain times of women’s lives can also cause disruptions in sexual desire or arousal including after childbirth or menopause, or during stressful times throughout life.

Dyspareunia, or Painful Intercourse

If you experience pain during sex, vaginal dryness, or inflammation of your vagina, you may have a sexual dysfunction problem.

Vaginal Dryness

Vaginal Dryness is a common symptom of menopause due to changes in hormone levels. The drop in estrogen levels in women going through menopause can lead to vaginal dryness and painful intercourse. While you can make changes in your sex life to help with vaginal dryness, medications or other treatments may be necessary.

MonaLisa Touch is an in-office procedure that treats vaginal dryness by stimulating new collagen in the tissue with laser energy. MonaLisa Touch is a great treatment option for patients going through menopause or experiencing menopausal symptoms from a hysterectomy or breast cancer treatments. Learn more ->

Atrophic Vaginitis

When the vaginal walls have thinned and are dry, it can cause your vagina to be irritated and inflamed. This can cause sexual intercourse to be a painful experience, and may cause women to avoid sex. A vaginal infection can sometimes be the cause of inflammation. Be sure to see your OBGYN if you think you have an infection.

Inhibited Sexual Desire

Sexual apathy or aversion can be caused by the above physical problems or they could stem from an emotional cause such as:

  • Anxiety or depression
  • Concerns with self-esteem or physical appearance
  • Relationship problems
  • Stress

Dr. Ciaccio is one of the best doctors I have ever met. She has been so attentive and supportive throughout my entire pregnancy. I was diagnosed with COVID at 32 weeks pregnant. We set up a telehealth appt and she immediately contacted my perinatologist to Collaborate with him on a plan of care. She was accessible to me daily. I could not have gotten through the nightmare of COVID during pregnancy without her support.
Whenever I called the on call doctor they always responded immediately. They were all so kind and helpful at all hours of the night and day. I am so thankful I found Women’s Health Partner’s!!

If you are pregnant and looking for the best care, you found the right place. I saw a few doctors from the Women’s Health Partner office in Boca, and they were all amazing. Most important is that when the labor time came, Dr. Newman and his team were there for me. They were the most caring and experienced doctors you can ask for. Dr. Ciaccio delivered my baby. If I have to do it again I wouldn’t excitate to be with them. I can go on and on on how much I’m thankful for their service. I am also grateful for the receptionist, specially Heidi, she is wonderful.
