Painful Menstrual Periods

Painful menstrual periods, also known as dysmenorrhea, is a common condition that can cause cramping, pain, and discomfort in the lower abdomen during menstruation. Menstrual cramps can be mild or severe, ranging from a dull ache to sharp, stabbing pains. This can also be accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches.

How to Relieve Painful Menstrual Periods?

There are several ways to relieve the pain associated with dysmenorrhea. The most common and simple method is to use over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen and naproxen, which can help reduce cramping and discomfort.

Heat therapy, such as a heating pad or warm bath, can also be very effective in relieving menstrual cramps. The heat helps relax the muscles and increase blood flow to the area, reducing pain and discomfort.

Exercise and maintaining a healthy diet can also bring menstrual pain relief. Regular physical activity can reduce the intensity and duration of menstrual cramps. Additionally, maintaining a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables and low in processed foods can minimize inflammation and improve overall health.

Other alternative therapies, such as acupuncture and yoga, also can be beneficial in providing much-needed menstrual pain relief.

In more severe cases, our doctors will prescribe hormonal medications such as birth control pills or intrauterine devices (IUDs) to help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce the intensity of menstrual cramps.

Don’t hesitate to consult a healthcare provider if the pain becomes severe or debilitating or if it disrupts daily activities.

Dr. Ciaccio is one of the best doctors I have ever met. She has been so attentive and supportive throughout my entire pregnancy. I was diagnosed with COVID at 32 weeks pregnant. We set up a telehealth appt and she immediately contacted my perinatologist to Collaborate with him on a plan of care. She was accessible to me daily. I could not have gotten through the nightmare of COVID during pregnancy without her support.
Whenever I called the on call doctor they always responded immediately. They were all so kind and helpful at all hours of the night and day. I am so thankful I found Women’s Health Partner’s!!

If you are pregnant and looking for the best care, you found the right place. I saw a few doctors from the Women’s Health Partner office in Boca, and they were all amazing. Most important is that when the labor time came, Dr. Newman and his team were there for me. They were the most caring and experienced doctors you can ask for. Dr. Ciaccio delivered my baby. If I have to do it again I wouldn’t excitate to be with them. I can go on and on on how much I’m thankful for their service. I am also grateful for the receptionist, specially Heidi, she is wonderful.
