Abnormal Pap Smear
A Pap smear test, also known as a cervical smear or Pap test, is a screening procedure used to detect abnormal cells on the cervix, which is the opening to the uterus at the top of the vagina. The test is usually done as part of a woman’s regular gynecologic examination, and it can help detect cervical cancer and precancerous conditions.
An abnormal Pap smear, also called an abnormal cervical smear, indicates that there are abnormal cells present on the cervix. These abnormal cells can be caused by a number of different factors, including HPV (human papillomavirus) infection, hormonal changes, and exposure to certain chemicals or toxins.
Even though a Pap smear test is used to test for cervical cancer, it is important to note that an abnormal Pap smear does not necessarily mean that a woman has cervical cancer. It is a common misconception that abnormal cervical cells always lead to cancer, but often it is a mild and transient change. In many cases, the abnormal cells will go away on their own without treatment. In other cases, the abnormal cells may need to be treated in order to prevent them from turning into cervical cancer.
Abnormal Pap Smear Treatment
Treatment for abnormal Pap smear can depend on the type and severity of the abnormal cells. If the test for cervical cancer shows abnormal cells that are low-grade, they may be closely monitored with regular follow-up Pap smear tests. If the abnormal cells are high-grade, they may need to be treated with procedures such as cryotherapy, which freezes the abnormal cells, or LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure), which removes the abnormal cells with a loop of electrical current.

Dr. Ciaccio is one of the best doctors I have ever met. She has been so attentive and supportive throughout my entire pregnancy. I was diagnosed with COVID at 32 weeks pregnant. We set up a telehealth appt and she immediately contacted my perinatologist to Collaborate with him on a plan of care. She was accessible to me daily. I could not have gotten through the nightmare of COVID during pregnancy without her support.
Whenever I called the on call doctor they always responded immediately. They were all so kind and helpful at all hours of the night and day. I am so thankful I found Women’s Health Partner’s!!

If you are pregnant and looking for the best care, you found the right place. I saw a few doctors from the Women’s Health Partner office in Boca, and they were all amazing. Most important is that when the labor time came, Dr. Newman and his team were there for me. They were the most caring and experienced doctors you can ask for. Dr. Ciaccio delivered my baby. If I have to do it again I wouldn’t excitate to be with them. I can go on and on on how much I’m thankful for their service. I am also grateful for the receptionist, specially Heidi, she is wonderful.
