Your OB/GYN at Unique Wellness Center recommends screening tests throughout your pregnancy to assess your baby’s health and diagnose birth defects. During your first trimester, they recommend an initial ultrasound to see how far along you are.

They also recommend a series of blood tests to measure pregnancy-related hormones, determine your blood type, and make sure your blood is compatible with your growing fetus.

Your provider also suggests you have a nuchal translucency ultrasound. This exam looks for signs of fluid accumulating at the back of your baby’s neck. Fluid there may indicate a risk of Down’s syndrome.

Between 15-24 weeks you may wish to have an additional screening called quad marker to test for birth defects. At 24-28 weeks, Unique Wellness Center recommends a glucose screening test to check for gestational diabetes. You may also have additional blood tests and an ultrasound.

After 28 weeks, Unique Wellness Center recommends having a fetal nonstress test to measure the heart rate and contractions. Around the 34th week, your OB/GYN recommends another ultrasound.

Between 35-37 weeks, Unique Wellness Center suggests testing for group B strep (GBS), a type of bacteria that can cause serious infections in pregnant women and newborns.
