Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a safe, painless diagnostic tool commonly used in women’s health. It uses sound waves that bounce off tissues, fluids, and bones to create real-time images displayed on a monitor.

During your ultrasound at Unique Wellness Center, a technician will apply a cool, water-based gel to your abdomen. This gel helps eliminate air pockets, allowing sound waves to travel clearly through your body.

A handheld device called a transducer is then moved over your skin. It sends sound waves into your body, creating real-time images displayed on a computer screen for your provider to review with you.

In some cases, your provider may recommend a transvaginal ultrasound for a closer internal view. Similar to a pelvic exam, you’ll lie on your back with your feet in stirrups as a slim ultrasound probe is gently inserted into the vagina. This device captures detailed images to help your provider evaluate reproductive health or diagnose gynecologic concerns.

At Unique Wellness Center, routine pregnancy ultrasounds are typically recommended around the 20th and 34th weeks. These ultrasounds help your provider:

  • Confirm pregnancy health and due date
  • Identify the location of the fetus and placenta
  • Determine the location of the fetus
  • Detect multiple pregnancies
  • Monitor fetal growth, movement, and heartbeat
  • Check for major physical abnormalities
  • Determine the sex of the baby

Your provider may also recommend additional ultrasounds to monitor your baby’s health or diagnose potential concerns during pregnancy.
