Dr. Janet Gersten started New Age Medical Research Corporation in 2000. We have completed over 100 major clinical trials and have generated numerous publications under Dr. Gersten’s direction. Four full-time board-certified doctors currently oversee all studies at New Age Medical Research. These doctors do not create or manufacture drugs. Instead, they act as a neutral third party who tests the drugs that someone else has manufactured. These studies are all highly regulated and New Age Medical Research is subject to random audits by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). When you volunteer to be a part of a clinical research trial, you are helping in the improvement of medical conditions and discovery of new drug treatments. Clinical trials are the main way new medications become available to the greater population and volunteers of all types are needed. All participants receive detailed information regarding the risks and benefits of each study and participation can be stopped at any time.

FAQ

A clinical trial is a medical research study involving human subjects. They are often designed to test new medications or treatments. Clinical trials are completely voluntary to join and can be stopped at any time for any reason. You can only join a clinical trial if you meet certain requirements or qualifications.

Technically, there are four different types of clinical trials performed in humans: Phase I, Phase II, Phase III, and Phase IV. Phase I studies test whether or not a new drug is safe and to identify side effects. These studies are only done on a small number of people, typically under 100. Phase II studies are done to determine drug dosing and efficacy in an attempt to figure out how well the medication works. Phase III studies are done on larger groups of people (usually in the thousands) and determine efficacy, effectiveness, and further monitor side effects. Often several Phase III studies need to be performed for a drug to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Phase IV studies are then done once a drug has been approved by the FDA to further track overall risks, benefits, and optimal use. It is important to note that all drugs must start at Phase I and successfully pass each phase before being approved for the next.

New Age Medical Research Corporation performs Phase II, Phase III, and Phase IV trials.

Clinical trials help to discover new medications or treatments for all types of diseases and disorders. They also can improve or advance the development of medicines or treatments that already exist. Your participation in a trial will make a difference in the fields of women’s health and general medicine.

Participants are also paid for their time and travel expenses while participating, typically ranging from $25-$200 per visit (varies per study). Study visits are performed on-site in our office. Some testing may be done at other local facilities. Clinical trials often provide participants with physical examinations, bloodwork, Pap smears, STI tests, ultrasounds, and mammograms at no cost.

It does not cost anything to participate in a clinical trial. Instead, you are often paid for your time and efforts, ranging anywhere from $25-$200 per visit but the exact amount varies per study. All testing that is part of the study (visits with a doctor, physical examination, blood tests, pap smears, EKGs, ultrasounds, mammograms, etc) are provided for free.

Being in a clinical trial is completely voluntary. You can stop a study at any time for any reason.

Clinical trials generally last anywhere from several months to several years. We also do one-time specimen collections where only one test such as one blood draw, a single urine sample, etc is needed. You receive compensation for these samples as well, usually anywhere from $25-$100.

When you are part of a clinical trial, all medical care given is based upon a specific study protocol. For example, each visit that is part of a study may involve certain tests such as urine tests, blood work, a physical exam, etc., regardless of whether or not you are experiencing symptoms.
