Weight Loss

Maintaining a healthy body weight is important for many aspects of personal health maintenance. Todd M. Goldberg Obstetrics and Gynecology in Pembroke Pines and Weston, Florida, recognizes this and has a nutritionist on staff to help you with your weight loss goals. Contact the offices today to start on your own personalized action plan.

Why is maintaining healthy weight so important?

A healthy body weight makes it easier for all the systems in your body to work at the most efficient levels. People who carry extra weight are at a higher risk for many diseases and conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, and congestive heart failure. Certain gynecological conditions are aggravated by being overweight as well.

On the other hand, being underweight adds stress to the body, too. Being on the slim side may make getting pregnant or carrying a baby more difficult, as the body struggles to provide for both mother and child.

What does a nutritionist do to help with weight maintenance?

An expert in the field of both nutrition and food, a nutritionist advices people how to eat to achieve their individual health-related goals. When it comes to weight issues, everyone has different needs. If you want to lose weight to improve your health, a nutritionist can sit down with you and discuss your weight loss goals. She’ll evaluate your current diet and suggest changes that can help you lose weight, while you eat healthy, wholesome foods that promote overall health.

If you need to gain weight — to help increase the chances of pregnancy or just to benefit your overall health — a nutritionist can be invaluable. She can teach you ways to boost your nutritional intake to gain weight in a healthy way.

Is the HCG diet real or a dangerous fad?

The HCG diet combines an aggressive low-calorie diet determined by our nutritionist, with injections of a hormone made by the body during pregnancy — human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG. The very-low-calorie diet drives the weight loss, as most people burn approximately 1,500 to 2,500 calories a day. Since a low-calorie diet is a very strict and low-level calorie intake, hunger is a natural offshoot, and the HCG injections are reported to suppress feelings of hunger. It’s thought that the HCG injections promote production of other hormones, so that the body relies more on burning fat instead of breaking down muscle to use for energy.

Any weight loss program should be discussed with your healthcare team to make sure it’s appropriate for your current health, specific dietary needs, and activity level.
