What is menopause?
Menopause occurs when a woman undergoes age-associated reproductive changes and stops getting a period. You’ve reached menopause if you haven’t had a menstrual cycle in 12 months.
The average age of menopause for women in the United States is 52. Perimenopause, the transitional period through menopause, may begin in your mid to late 40s and last about four years. During perimenopause and beyond, you might experience symptoms that bother you.
What are the symptoms of menopause?
Menopausal symptoms vary from woman to woman, but common symptoms of menopause or perimenopause include:
Irregular periods during perimenopause
Vaginal dryness
Chills, night sweats, or hot flashes
Sleeping problems
Mood changes
A slowed metabolism or weight gain
Dry skin or thinning hair
Urinary incontinence
The main cause of these and other menopause-related symptoms is hormone imbalance, as your ovaries produce fewer hormones (such as estrogen) as you age.

How are menopause symptoms treated in South Florida?
Dr. Krinsky and his team treat menopause symptoms using various methods, such as:
Hormone Replacement Therapy
Dr. Krinsky may recommend hormone replacement therapy to increase low hormone levels within your body. He may recommend estrogen-only therapy if you’ve had a hysterectomy, or estrogen plus progestin if you still have a uterus. Hormone replacement helps prevent bone loss, hot flashes, and other menopause symptoms.
Vaginal Estrogen
If you experience vaginal dryness during or after menopause, Dr. Krinsky may recommend you apply estrogen products directly to your vagina in the form of vaginal creams, rings, or tablets. Doing so releases small amounts of estrogen into the vaginal tissue to relieve dryness, urinary symptoms, and painful intercourse.
Low-Dose Antidepressant Medications
If you’re unable to take estrogen for health reasons, Dr. Krinsky may recommend low-dose antidepressant medications to relieve menopause symptoms like hot flashes and mood changes.
Anti-Seizure Medications
Taking anti-seizure medications may help reduce hot flashes in women who aren’t good candidates for estrogen therapy. Dr. Krinsky will help you decide what, if any, medications are a good match for you.
Osteoporosis Medications
If you have low bone density due to menopause-related hormone imbalance, Dr. Krinsky may recommend osteoporosis medication or other supplements to strengthen your bones and reduce the risk of fractures.
Alternative Medicine and Lifestyle Remedies
Dr. Krinsky believes in treating gynecological conditions in Tamarac as naturally as possible and may recommend alternative medicine or lifestyle remedies instead of or in addition to hormone therapy. He may suggest you:
Get more sleep
Use relaxation techniques such as meditation
Strengthen your pelvic floor muscles
Exercise regularly
Avoid tobacco smoke
Utilize acupuncture or hypnosis
