High-Risk Pregnancy Care, Side by Side With Your OB

Co-management means your maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist and your OB care for you as a team. Your OB stays your primary doctor and manages your delivery, while our specialists add high-risk expertise: consultation, specialized ultrasounds, and a tailored management plan. Conditions we most often co-manage include chronic high blood pressure, diabetes, and pregnancies at age 35 and older.

Specialized expertise, without leaving the OB you trust

Hearing that your pregnancy needs extra attention can feel unsettling. Here’s the reassuring part: you’re not being handed off. Your OB stays at the center of your care. We work alongside them, adding a layer of high-risk expertise and closer monitoring for you and your baby.

Who benefits from co-management

We’re most often brought in for chronic high blood pressure, diabetes (both gestational and pre-existing), and advanced maternal age. Each of these simply benefits from the closer attention a specialized care plan provides.

How it works: two roles, one team

Your OB remains your primary physician and manages your delivery, and any new issues should always be shared with them. Our specialists work alongside your OB to monitor and manage the high-risk aspects of your pregnancy. In practice, that can include consultations, specialized ultrasounds, and a management plan, and we may also draw labs, check your blood pressure, and perform non-stress tests.

How your OB stays informed

Your OB receives our ultrasound and consultation reports after each appointment. If anything concerning comes up, we reach out to your OB directly to discuss it. That open dialogue between your two doctors is exactly what makes co-management work, so decisions are made together with the full picture in view.

Two things worth clarifying

Patients sometimes assume two things that aren’t the case, so we like to be upfront. First, our MFM specialists will not deliver your baby. That stays with your OB. Second, the ultrasounds you have with us may not be the same as the ones you’ve had at your OB’s office, because ours are more detailed and focused on the high-risk picture.

A partnership, start to finish

A high-risk designation is a reason for closer attention, not a reason for alarm. With a specialized care plan and two doctors who talk to each other, this is something we navigate together.

Had great experience, Dr.Romary and her staff is great. So courteous all are. Each appointment I looked forward too as they gave detailed information and answered all my questions on baby growth. I had gestational diabetes and with that too, Dr. Romary guided me well to manage it with diet. She followed up to make sure my sugars were in limits and it will not affect baby’s growth. Love this place!!
