The foundation of her nursing career spawned from ortho/neuro/medical surgical nursing, antepartum, postpartum and new born nursery where she served as a mentor and preceptor to nurses. Then there was a yearning for more and to make a difference with a higher order of practice. After 5 years at the bedside and spending the latter years in maternal nursing Karen wanted to make a difference in women’s health. Karen attended graduate school at Florida International University where she graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing and became Nurse Practitioner in Adult Health.
Upon graduating as a nurse practitioner she became a nursing school instructor. Soon after she had the honor and opportunity to help create and open a new department of its kind under the Center for Women’s and Infants service-line, The South Miami Hospital Fibroid Center. A unique center that offers multi disciplinary consultation for women suffering from uterine fibroids. Here Karen spent 8 years where she became skilled in advanced women’s health and also gained experience in urodymanic testing with interpretation. Karen’s dedication, passion towards her patients and thirst for knowledge continues to live on. As faith would have it, as of the fall of 2018 Karen is proud to join the South Miami Women’s Health practice.
Karen utterly and completely enjoys spending time with her husband Benjamin and their two sons.
