Endometrial Ablation
in Boca Raton, Florida

What is endometrial ablation? The term covers a surgical procedure that eliminates the uterine lining (or ablates the endometrium). Endometrial ablation aims to help regulate (reduce) menstrual flow or stop it entirely.

There are no incisions required for the procedure, and it can often be performed in the physician’s office. A device is inserted through the cervix and into the uterine cavity. Thermal energy, either heat or cold, is applied in an attempt to eliminate or reduce the uterine lining. The desired effect is to reduce or eliminate a woman’s period.

The Goal of Endometrial Ablation

Hysteroscopic endometrial ablation represents a minimally invasive, safe, and effective means for menstrual blood loss.

As such, gynecologists might recommend uterine ablation in cases like:

  • When the patient experiences heavy periods
  • Long menstrual bleeding lasting longer than eight days
  • Anemia as a result of the profound blood loss

Options for the treatment of heavy menses and abnormal menses are both medical and surgical. Often women will elect for medical treatment such as oral hormone therapy or a hormonal IUD prior to choosing an endometrial ablation.

Possible Endometrial Ablation Side Effects

Complications are rare but may arise after surgery. They can include:

  • Bleeding, infection, mild pain
  • Minor cold or heat damage to nearby structures
  • Small injuries from the surgical instruments

Furthermore, patients may experience the following after uterine ablation:

  • Cramps: Patients may experience menstrual-like cramps for a short while after the procedure, which can be relieved with the help of common OTC medications.
  • Vaginal discharge: It’s also not unusual to experience water discharge from the vagina.

Although an endometrial ablation is safe and highly effective, there is a range in the treatment outcome of each individual. The greatest risk is if the patient does not obtain the treatment outcome they desire.

“I originally found Dr Ellman based upon his wonderful reviews. His office is very clean & welcoming along with his wonderful staff. I had the pleasure of there midwife Ilona & Dr Ellman delivering my son a few weeks ago. Ilona was wonderful and even came to my hospital room a few times after I delivered my son. She really made it a special experience for my fiancé & I. They’ve always made me feel comfortable and reassured me during my pregnancy. I cant begin to thank them enough for making my pregnancy & delivery a wonderful experience.”

“Doctor Ellman is the most caring OBGYN I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. I’ve had debilitating pain for many many years related to my period. Dr Ellman helped me find the cause and made a plan of treatment after many failed attempts. You can tell he cares for his patients and wants to do whatever he can to help and this applies to his staff as well. I’m thankful that I found Dr Ellman and his team.”

“I met Dr. Ellman in 2018 when I found out I was pregnant for the first time. I was nervous and excited and the same time. Dr. Ellman explains the birthing process in the lamest of terms and I felt so comfortable with him. Anytime I had a question everyone was so helpful and the energy was so welcoming and the whole office is so knowledgeable. Best experience ever being a first time mom. Would recommend to everyone I know. I still to this day 4 years later use Dr. Ellman as my OBGYN.”
