We offer both mammogram and breast imaging services:

All exams performed at Pembroke Pink Imaging are digital. The addition of computer aided detection (CAD) in mammography significantly increases the accuracy rate of test results. Annual mammograms can detect cancer early, when it is most treatable. In fact, mammograms show changes in the breast up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them.

Research conducted by the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) has shown that digital mammography is a valuable diagnostic tool for women under age 50, women with dense breasts, and women who have not gone through menopause or who have been in menopause less than one year.

3D Mammography, clinically known as, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT), is a new cutting edge technology that uses low dose x-rays at multiple angles to acquire information that can create a 3D image of the breast.

A screening mammogram is a preventative exam used to examine women who have no signs or symptoms that could be breast cancer. American Cancer Society, American College of Radiology and Society of Breast Imaging recommend annual screening mammograms begin at age 40. They can help reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer among women ages 40 and above. For your convenience and peace of mind, we strive to provide same-day screening and diagnostic exam results.

Diagnostic Mammograms are used for patients with a personal history of breast cancer, who have symptoms or another indication of cancer, or who have breast implants. Additional exams, such as a breast ultrasound, may be performed to aid in diagnosis. For your convenience and peace of mind, we strive to provide same-day screening and diagnostic exam results.

A breast ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the tissues inside the breast. Unlike a mammogram, a breast ultrasound can show hard to reach areas of the breast, including the area closest to the chest wall.

It is important to note that a breast ultrasound does not replace a mammogram, but it helpful to further evaluate abnormal results from a mammogram. When used in conjunction with mammography, it can increase breast cancer detection, especially in dense-breasted patients. Ultrasounds are used to see whether a breast lump is filled with fluid or if it is solid.

A Breast MRI is an imaging test that helps determine if a lump in the breast is cancerous or benign. This test uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio waves to make pictures of the breast. The Breast MRI may show problems in the breast that cannot be seen on a mammogram, ultrasound, or CT scan. The picture shows your breast’s normal structure, and identifies tissue damage or disease, inflammation, or a lump.

We also perform the following breast procedures:

A stereotactic biopsy is ordered for further evaluation of your breast tissue to look at it under a microscope for abnormalities. Stereotactic technology involves finding the precise location of the abnormal area by using conventional mammography from three angles and a special biopsy needle.

Women who undergo stereotactic biopsy can take comfort in knowing that the procedure is safe, simple, and only mildly uncomfortable. Unlike the more invasive surgical procedure, there is no external scarring, no internal scar to interfere with future mammograms, no exposure to general procedure, and no prolonged recovery period.

Ultrasound-guided breast biopsy is a highly accurate way to evaluate suspicious masses within the breast that are located by ultrasound. This method is very useful when questionable area can be seen by mammogram and ultrasound but cannot be felt during the breast self-exam or by clinical examination.

Ultrasound-guided core biopsy is a minimally invasive way to obtain a sample of breast tissue for further diagnosis. It is also faster and less painful than traditional surgical biopsy

A cyst aspiration is a simple procedure in which a needle and syringe are used to drain and diagnose a presumed breast cyst, guided by an ultrasound to get a better picture of the lump. It is a safe, well-tolerated, and timely diagnostic procedure that is used when a breast lump is found that can either be a cyst or tumor.

Fine needle aspiration is a type of biopsy procedure in which a thin needle is inserted into an area of abnormal-appearing tissue that can be felt. It allows the radiologist to retrieve enough tissue to analyze under a microscope and make an accurate diagnosis of any abnormalities.
