
Joining the South Miami OB-GYN Associates group after completing my residency truly feels like coming home. This very practice delivered me, and I am honored to return as a physician, caring for women in the same community where I was raised.
Dr. Alexandra Alvarez is an obstetrician-gynecologist who completed her residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System in 2025, where she served as Chief Resident. Born and raised in Miami, she attended Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart and graduated with highest honors. She then earned her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University before returning home to complete her medical degree at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she graduated with distinction in research.
Throughout her career, Dr. Alvarez has been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including the Mary Jo O’Sullivan Award for Excellence in Obstetrics, the Outstanding Chief Resident Award, the Outstanding Minimally Invasive Surgery Resident Award from the Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons, and the Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery Award from the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. She is also a two-time recipient of the Golden Apple Teaching Award for Excellence in Medical Education and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Alvarez is proud to return to the practice where she was born as a physician. She is fluent in English and Spanish and looks forward to a long career providing compassionate, excellent care to women of all ages.
