The natural purified protein botulinum toxin (Botox®) is an injectable treatment for wrinkles, frowns and muscle hyperactivity. It works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles and blocking the nerve impulses. Areas most commonly treated are in the upper face (brow, forehead and around the eyes). Sometimes it is also used in the lips, cheeks and neck. Muscle function usually returns in three to five months; repeated injection usually requires less Botox® for effect.
There are several brands of botulinum toxin that we offer. Each of these are very similar; however, the effect they have can have small differences and some patients may prefer one product over the other.
