Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)
The Problem: Forehead creases, drooping eyebrows, hooding over eyes and furrowed forehead and frown lines cause an aged appearance.
The Goal: Forehead lift or “brow lift” can bring a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes.
The Procedure: 1.5 to 2 hours. Several techniques can be performed under local; however, more commonly performed under anesthesia. Various techniques offered including endoscopic with minimal scars versus open with incisions in the hair bearing scalp and repositioning of the brow and weakening of the muscles that create wrinkles.
Surgical Overview
Length: Usually 1-2 hours.
Anesthesia: General (asleep).
Hospital Stay: Usually outpatient.
Side Effects: Temporary swelling, numbness, headaches, bruising. Traditional method: Possible itching and hair loss. Pain is generally minimal and relieved with oral medications for the first day or two. Bruising and swelling usually subside in seven to 14 days.
Risks: Bleeding, infection, nerve injury, injury to facial nerve, causing loss of motion, muscle weakness or an asymmetrical look.
Recovery: May leave drains in for 1-2 days. Scars will fade considerably over time and are hidden by the hair. Return to work usually one week after surgery, sometimes sooner for endoscopic forehead lift. More strenuous activity should not be done for several weeks. Full recovery from bruising could take two to three weeks. Limit sun exposure for several months.
Duration of Results: Results can last up to 15 years.
