“How do you get better skin?”
Your skin is the largest organ of your body. It is the packaging that presents you to the world and often times it may get overlooked because of busy lifestyles.
Proper care and treatment can help keep skin looking healthy or even revitalize tired looking skin.
Although many things can affect the skin including injury, disease or the natural process of aging such as monthly hormonal changes or menopause, there are many anti-aging remedies available that can seemingly slowdown or erase the effects of Father Time.
The face, neck, chest or hands usually show signs of aging first and do need special care.
We’re all familiar with the basics, drink enough water to keep hydrated and limit alcohol consumption because of its dehydrating effects, refrain from smoking, use moisturizer and avoid sunburn with protective clothing or by applying sunblock.
If that’s not enough there are other options to consider such as micro-needling. It is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that uses 12 fine needles to puncture and create micro injuries in the skin. The skin repairs itself by stimulating collagen production which plumps up the skin and gives a smoother more radiant appearance.
This type of procedure can also be helpful for reducing the look of scars. It has been used for stretch marks as well and to address blotchy skin or fine wrinkles.
Micro-needling is becoming a preferred choice because lasers, which are effective too, are a little more invasive and there can be side effects such as hyperpigmentation.
Different procedures can help reduce skin damage but the best approach, is to avoid skin damage in the first place. Most people know it’s a good idea to use sunscreen but many don’t realize sunscreen is only good for 60 minutes of sun exposure and needs to be reapplied.
Many over the counter products can also assist with keeping your skin looking its best. Products containing retinol acid or Vitamin C are key ingredients to stimulating collagen growth and getting rid of dead skin cells. Skincare products are best without fragrances and preservatives which can cause allergic reactions.
Taking care of your skin is one of the best things you can do for your body.
