He has been involved in educating medical students, orthopedic residents, orthopedic fellows, and graduate and undergraduate engineering students for the last 30 years. He currently holds an academic appointment as adjunct clinical professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Miami. Dr. Lavernia graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans with a BS in Mathematics and an MS in Biomedical Engineering. He received his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico Medical School.
