At a time when doctors across the country are reporting a rise in the number of unvaccinated pregnant women getting hospitalized with severe cases of COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reaffirms the data that proves the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines throughout pregnancy.
Kristen Hutton is a patient of TopLine MD Alliance affiliated OBGYN, Dr. Dudley Brown, who decided not to get the COVID-19 vaccine because of fears. In the video below, Hutton shares her story and explains why she wished she had. After arriving at the hospital while 38 weeks pregnant, thinking she just needed fluids for a stomach bug, Hutton was faced with the scary reality that she had the coronavirus. As things escalated quickly and her lungs began failing, doctors decided to have an emergency C-section. The baby was born safely and healthy, but Hutton spent eight days in the hospital, four of them being in an intensive care unit and COVID-19 ward, and she had to undergo nine blood transfusions.
As new COVID-19 variants rapidly spread through the United States, it is important to stay informed on the virus and the vaccines available. TopLine MD continues to highly encourage vaccination, especially for pregnant women, as information proves how new variants of the virus can be particularly dangerous for this population.
