The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted full approval to the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for people ages 16 and older.  Since December 2020, the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine has been available under emergency use authorization in individuals 16 years of age and older, and the authorization was expanded to include those 12 through 15 years of age in May 2021.

According to the FDA, the vaccine also continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), for individuals ages 12 through 15 and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.

While millions of people have already been safely vaccinated against COVID-19, this marks an important milestone in ensuring that the vaccine is safe and effective at preventing serious illness from the virus.
