With the holiday season in full swing, stress levels are sure to be high – so we’ve put together a list of tips to help you relax and get through the holidays with less stress and more serenity.
1. Make time for you
Don’t let holiday planning take over your life. Keep up with your daily routines and leave some time to take care of yourself – go on a walk, continue reading your book, or do something that makes you happy.
2. Do less so you can enjoy more
Find ways to scale back on planning and décor so you aren’t overwhelmed about everything that needs to get done. Setting realistic expectations will allow you more time to enjoy yourself and your family.
3. Remember what the season is about
Stop focusing on the lights and gifts and focus on what the season is actually about – celebrating and spending time with loved ones. Be in the moment and don’t worry about materialistic things.
4. Sweat before the party
Make time for a quick run or yoga class. Exercise has been proven to decrease levels of tension which will help reduce your stress and anxiety.
5. Let go of perfection
Be satisfied with what you do and stop obsessing about making things perfect. The world won’t end if your house is a little messy, so don’t sweat the small stuff.
6. Plan ahead
Don’t leave everything until the last minute. Make an organized list of everything you need to get done and figure out the best way to accomplish it sooner rather than later.
7. Ask for help
There is no rule that says you have to do everything on your own. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your spouse, your children, or even your guests.
8. Get some shut eye
Between holiday shopping and party planning, the season is sure to leave you short on sleep – but it’s important to try and sleep at least seven hours a night as sleep deprivation can affect your mood.
